Stalking Horse Winery to Watch
US based magazine Wine Spectator has deemed Stalking Horse, "Winery to Watch" from Australia.
Editor at large Harvey Steinman, has written a very postive article about Australian wines and how well they represent value for money. Of Stalking Horse he says, "Bruce Clugston makes the wines, and his wife, Fiona White, does "pretty much everything else" at Wineinc, their négociant business started in 2004. The stable includes the Stalking Horse and Gotham labels, which use grapes from all over South Australia. Clugston bottles the wines by appellation to emphasize regional character and keeps prices moderate. Stalking Horse's Shiraz McLaren Vale 2008 (90, $20) shows stony, minerally overtones around a core of blackberry and licorice. A Barossa bottling (88, $20) fills the mouth with dried berry, plum and smoke. Gotham's Wine Men of Gotham series aims for $10 wines with surprising depth, such as the Shiraz-Grenache South Australia 2008 (88, $10), ripe, full-bodied and easy to drink."
